What units of height are supported?

This easy to use height converter supports conversions between imperial units, between metric units, as well as converts between metric and imperial, and vice versa. You can convert units used for measuring tiny heights such as millimeters (mm), micrometers (μm), and nanometers (nm), small heights like inches (in), feet (ft), yards (yd), centimeters (cm), decimeters (dm), and meters (m) as well as very large heights measured in miles (mi), kilometers (km).

Conversion is supported both between metric (e.g. meters to centimeters, centimeters to meters, etc.) and between imperial units (e.g. feet to yards, yards to feet, inches to feet, feet to inches, etc.) as well as between measurement systems, for example feet to meters, meters to feet, meters to yards, yards to meters, and so on. A limitation of the calculator is that it doesn't support input or output in "feet and inches", that is, if your height is 5 feet 7 inches, you would need to convert that to 67 inches before you can enter it in the tool. Similarly, the output from converting 180 cm will be either 5.905 feet or 70.87 inches, and not 5 feet 10.87 inches. However, you can use our Human Height Conversion Table below for reference.

The online height converter uses definitions for the units of height as they are established by international treaty in 1959 and as defined by the International System of Units (SI) [1] whose definitions are followed universally around the world. It is also in accord with the ISO standards for quantities and units [2]. The conversion output is accurate to nine decimal places: more than enough for most applications.

Height conversion examples

There are many possible conversions between the metrics supported in our height converter above. Some selected examples follow.

Centimeters to Feet conversion

Example task: a person is 180 cm tall, how tall are they measured in feet? Essentially, the mathematical task is to convert 180 cm to ft. Solution:

Formula:
cm / 30.48 = ft
Calculation:
180 cm / 30.48 = 5.905512 ft
End result:
180 cm is equal to 5.905512 ft

So 180 cm equals roughly 5.9 ft or five feet and eleven inches, meaning the person in question is 5'9'' tall.

Feet to Meter conversion example

Sample task: convert 6 feet to meters. Solution:

Formula:
ft * 0.3048 = m
Calculation:
6 ft * 0.3048 = 1.8288 m
End result:
6 ft is equal to 1.8288 m

Meters to Feet conversion example

Sample task: convert 2 meters to feet. Solution:

Formula:
m / 0.3048 = ft
Calculation:
2 m / 0.3048 = 6.561680 ft
End result:
2 m is equal to 6.561680 ft
