Grand Canyon Adventure 3D

The film is produced by MacGillivray Freeman Films (producers of the blockbuster giant-screen hit Everest and many others) and MacGillivray Freeman Films Educational Foundation, in association with Waterkeeper Alliance and Museum Film Network. Set in the Grand Canyon on the iconic Colorado River and featuring the first-ever IMAX 3D images of the Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk 3D calls attention to the fact that an estimated 1.5 billion people—one in five on the planet—lack access to safe water, while 5 million people die every year due to water-borne illnesses. The U.N. estimates that 40% of the world could face perilous shortages by the year 2050. The Colorado River—a source of water and power to 25 million Americans—is itself the victim of a severe drought cycle now facing the American Southwest. Researchers predict this mega-drought could last into the next century, threatening to wreck havoc among the seven states that depend heavily on the river’s water. Leading this important expedition are two environmentalists: river advocate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and author/anthropologist/explorer Wade Davis, each accompanied by their daughters—Kick Kennedy and Tara Davis—for whom this journey will become a moving rite of passage. They are guided by Shana Watahomigie, a Native American of the Havasupai tribe and the first member of her tribe to become a National Park Ranger and river guide. The film’s score, featuring songs and music from the Grammy Award-winning Dave Matthews Band, sets the mood for this adventure that explores the spiritual, artistic and life-sustaining powers of water.
